In particular, the focus is on argumentative competence on scientific topics; in this exploratory investigation, the topic "the use of nuclear energy to produce electricity in Argentina" is proposed. The participating students belong to the 4th year of secondary schools in the district of Lomas de Zamora in the province of Buenos Aires. The research methodology consists of the analysis of argumentative texts in two instances: before and after speaking, reading and writing about the subject in question. From the analysis of these records, as a first approximation, it can be concluded that scientific competence is closely related to the scientific culture that each person has, and how strengthening argumentative skills significantly improves people's scientific competences. It is important to remember that it is concluded that scientific competence is related to scientific culture and scientific literacy. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar una herramienta didáctica que tiene como fin mejorar la competencia científica de los estudiantes. En particular se hace foco en la competencia argumentativa sobre temas científicos; en esta indagación exploratoria se propone el tópico “el uso de energía nuclear para producir electricidad en Argentina”. Los estudiantes participantes pertenecen a 4.o año de escuelas de nivel secundario del partido de Lomas de Zamora de la provincia de Buenos Aires. La metodología de la investigación consiste en el análisis de los textos argumentativos en dos instancias: antes y después de hablar, leer y escribir sobre el tema en cuestión. A partir del análisis de estos registros, como primera aproximación, se puede concluir que la competencia científica está íntimamente relacionada con la cultura científica que cada persona tiene, y que fortalecer las habilidades argumentativas mejora de forma significativa las competencias argumentativas de las personas. Es importante recordar que se concluye que la competencia científica se relaciona con la competencia argumentativa, la cultura científica y la alfabetización científica.
