The analysis combines guidelines from Systemic-Functional Linguistics and contributions from previous research in Science Didactics. The sample includes 16 images of 12 textbooks,both secondary and university level, used in Argentina. We examine visual-verbal aspects (type of representation, focus of the image,verbal components) and disciplinary aspects (charges, attractions and repulsions, mobility of electrons). The results allow us to identifythe physical phenomena represented, characterize the forms of representation and detect some difficulties that could potentially hinderdisciplinary learning. We conclude by stating that the images cannot be understood intuitively, but rather require a detailed interpretationthat delves into the meanings of both the visual and verbal representations. En este trabajo presentamos una investigación de corte cualitativo que analiza imágenes sobre la inducción electrostática incluidas enlibros de texto con el objetivo de desentrañar el codespliegue de los lenguajes verbal y visual para construir significados. El análisisconjuga lineamientos de la Lingüística Sistémico-Funcional y aportes de investigaciones anteriores en Didáctica de las Ciencias. Lamuestra incluye 16 imágenes de 12 libros de texto tanto de nivel secundario como universitario utilizados en Argentina. Examinamosaspectos visuales-verbales (tipo de representación, foco de la imagen, componentes verbales) y disciplinares (cargas, atracciones yrepulsiones, movilidad de los electrones). Los resultados nos permiten identificar los fenómenos físicos representados, caracterizar lasformas de representación y detectar algunas dificultades que potencialmente podrían obstaculizar el aprendizaje disciplinar. Concluimosafirmando que las imágenes no pueden comprenderse de modo intuitivo, sino que requieren de una interpretación detallada queprofundice en los significados de las representaciones tanto visuales como verbales.
