This was documentary research with a quantitative approach, presenting itself as a descriptive study. The data sources were the documents made available by the Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira, which were submitted to descriptive statistics. As a result, it was possible to point out that although in the past policies have worsened the problem, today they were successful in expanding vacancies, but about a third of face-to-face vacancies and more than 90% of distance vacancies were not filled. It was observed that the distance modality, driven by the UAB system, was responsible for only 18% of the graduates. Conclusion point out the need to increase the efficiency of current public policies. O objetivo deste trabalho é conhecer os resultados obtidos com as diversas políticas públicas implementadas nesse século e detalhar quantitativamente a formação de professores de física no Brasil. Foi uma pesquisa documental com uma abordagem quantitativa e se apresenta como um estudo descritivo. As fontes de dados foram os documentos disponibilizados pelo Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira, os quais foram submetidos a estatística descritiva. Como resultado, foi possível apontar que se no passado as políticas agravaram o problema, hoje elas foram exitosas em ampliar as vagas, mas cerca de um terço das vagas presenciais e mais de 90% das vagas a distância não foram preenchidas. A modalidade a distância, impulsionada pelo sistema UAB, foi responsável por apenas 18% dos concluintes. Conclusões apontam a necessidade de se aumentar a eficiência das políticas públicas atuais.
