All images relating to Young's experiment in ten university text-books were analyzed. The results indicate that the images are mostly used to define and describe, using diagrams and photos. All images are text-related, most are colourful and contain verbal labels. The use of a sine wave model prevails over the use of a phasor diagram. A low percentage of images contain ambiguities that mix elements of geometric optics with wave optics. It is concluded that some complex images are not self-evident or transparent, so it is essential to guide the students in the process of interpretation to guarantee their understanding. Se presentan resultados de un estudio descriptivo de casos múltiples. Se analizaron todas las imágenes relativas al experimento de Young presentes en diez libros de texto universitarios. Los resultados señalan que las imágenes se emplean mayoritariamen-te para definir y describir, recurriendo a esquemas y fotos. Todas las imágenes están relacionadas con el texto, la mayoría son coloridas y contienen etiquetas verbales. El uso de modelo de ondas sinusoidales prevalece sobre el de diagrama de fasores. Un bajo porcentaje de imágenes contiene ambigüedades que mezclan elementos de óptica geométrica con óptica ondulatoria. Se concluye que algunas imágenes complejas no son auto-evidentes ni transparentes, por lo que es imprescindible guiar a los estu-diantes en el proceso de interpretación para garantizar su comprensión.
