Understanding these representations can assist in the process of learning the concepts of Black Hole, Relativity and Universal Gravitation, adding common sense ideas to the scientific concepts studied at PMTU. The results indicate that the students surveyed have social representations of the theme, which are based on elements from the formal education space and also disseminated in the media. In addition, they demonstrate that they have knowledge about Astronomy, verified by the diversity of representations, evidenced in the elaborated mental maps, which mix elements of common sense with elements of scientific knowledge. The analysis of the data also revealed that most of the words evoked in the research presented possible social representations inserted in the reified universe. Este trabalho apresenta os resultados de uma análise de mapas mentais, cujo objetivo foi investigar as representações sociais compartilhadas por estudantes do nono ano do ensino fundamental sobre o tema Buraco Negro, durante a implementação de uma Unidade de Ensino Potencialmente Significativa - UEPS. A compreensão dessas representações pode auxiliar no processo de aprendizagem dos conceitos de Buraco Negro, Relatividade e Gravitação Universal, agregando as ideias do senso comum aos conceitos científicos estudados na UEPS. Os resultados indicam que os estudantes pesquisados possuem representações sociais do tema, as quais são alicerçadas em elementos provenientes do espaço formal de educação e também divulgados na mídia. Além disso, demonstram que eles têm conhecimentos sobre Astronomia, verificados pela diversidade das representações, evi-denciadas nos mapas mentais elaborados, as quais mesclam elementos do senso comum com elementos do conhecimento científico. A análise dos dados revelou, também, que a maioria das palavras evocadas na pesquisa apresentaram possíveis re-presentações sociais inseridas no universo reificado.
