Then, a brief analysis of some passages of the encyclical Fidei Donum, related to the scenario of decolonization in Africa, is carry out. It is highlighted that the summoning of missionary priests from Northern countries to work on the African continent is extended to Latin America: and, these had as their main mission to combat communism and protestantism. Oral history interviews carried out with some missionary priests who worked in the Northeast of Brazil, allows us to reflect on how, in daily practice, some did not comply with the recommendation of this Encyclical. And by showing solidarity with the needs of the poorest layers of the population, they were called communists and after the 1964 coup, they were interrogated by police and military agents, arrested and even expelled.
