Sumario:This essay sets out to discuss social assistance as a right. To do so, it starts from a set of questions that both motivate and organize the text, and emphasizes two central axes: on the one hand, the question about the subject of assistance; on the other, the question about the state. It is our intention to contribute to the disciplinary debate, which has been revitalized in recent years, around the assistance dimension of professional intervention and social assistance policy as a specific and autonomous field among the public system of social protection.
