It is our intention to contribute to the disciplinary debate, which has been revitalized in recent years, around the assistance dimension of professional intervention and social assistance policy as a specific and autonomous field among the public system of social protection. El presente ensayo se propone poner en discusión la Asistencia Social en clave de derecho. Para ello, parte de una serie de preguntas que tanto motivan como organizan el texto y hace hincapié en dos ejes centrales: de un lado, la pregunta por el sujeto de la asistencia; del otro, la pregunta por el Estado. Es nuestra intención contribuir al debate disciplinar, revitalizado en los últimos años, en torno de la dimensión asistencial de la intervención y a la política de asistencia social como campo específico y autónoma del sistema público estatal de protección social.
