Poverty indicators increased in 2018, which was reflected - and more noticeably still - in childhood poverty, without observing state strategies to mitigate the impact. There are several organizations that produce data about poverty, which propose different methodological measurement strategies, but all agree that the impact is severely greater in the child population, placing it above 40%, when the indicators of general poverty are around 30%. The data acquires greatest relevance in as much its more concrete manifestations act and it violates basic rights of the childhood with the aggravating circumstance, that no state coping strategies were observed to cushion the impact, but rather, on the contrary, budgetary measures linked directly with the reduction and the sub-execution thereof. The central issue that guides this article is the growth of childhood poverty, its statistical characterization, is conditions of production and reproduction, the state actions or omissions, and the presentation of other voices - especially academic ones - that tried to account for the process and its implications It was prepared within the framework of a research project “Measurement and Mediatization of the Contemporary Social Question in Argentina. A reading of the main national social indicators”, developed by teaching researchers from the National University of Lanús. Los indicadores de pobreza aumentaron en el transcurso del año 2018, y en mayor proporción los relativos a la pobreza infantil. Varios son los organismos productores de datos que –aun planteando metodologías de medición diversas- la sitúan por encima del 40%, cuando los indicadores de pobreza general se establecen alrededor del 30%. El dato adquiere mayor relevancia en tanto sus manifestaciones más concretas accionan y vulneran derechos básicos de la niñez, con el agravante en este caso, de que no se observaron estrategias de afrontamiento estatal que amortiguaran el impacto, sino muy por el contrario, medidas presupuestarias vinculadas directamente con la reducción de partidas primero y con la sub-ejecución de las mismas como fase siguiente. El eje central que guía entonces el recorrido de este artículo, es el análisis del fenómeno desde diversas aristas entre las que pueden mencionarse: la caracterización estadística de las condiciones de producción y reproducción de la pobreza infantil en Argentina, las acciones u omisiones estatales, y la presentación de otras voces – especialmente académicas- que intentaron dar cuenta del proceso y sus implicancias. Este documento fue elaborado en el marco del proyecto de investigación “Medición y Mediatización de la Cuestión Social Contemporánea en Argentina. Una lectura de los principales indicadores sociales nacionales” desarrollado por docentes investigadores de la Universidad Nacional de Lanús.
