The purpose is to initiate a process of discussion about said Plan from the perspective of Social Work and the disciplines involved in this field, refuting its contents with the empirical evidence gathered from the ordering of available quantitative data and the systematization of qualitative information collected through the speeches of the actors involved (politicians, managers, academics, technicians and especially users). Based on this information, concepts are reviewed, the situation of Mental Health in our country is analyzed and considerations regarding the global operation of the plan are made from the perspective of the professionals involved and the users. In this way we hope to provoke the debate on the multidisciplinary crossroads in which Mental Health finds itself to understand the historical swings within the framework of the profound transformations undertaken in the region. En esta comunicación se discuten los resultados de una investigación financiada por la Comisión Sectorial de Investigación Científica de la Universidad de la República para el estudio del Plan de Implementación de Prestaciones en Salud Mental en el Sistema Nacional Integrado de Salud en el Uruguay. El propósito es iniciar un proceso de discusión sobre dicho Plan desde la perspectiva del Trabajo Social y de las disciplinas implicadas en este campo, refutando sus contenidos con la evidencia empírica recogida a partir del ordenamiento de datos cuantitativos disponibles y de la sistematización de la información cualitativa recabada a través de los discursos de los actores involucrados (políticos, gestores, académicos, técnicos y en especial usuarios). A partir de esta información se revisan conceptos, se analiza la situación de la Salud Mental en nuestro país y se realizan consideraciones respecto al funcionamiento global del plan desde la perspectiva de las/os profesionales involucrados y de las/os usuarias/os. De este modo esperamos provocar el debate sobre la encrucijada multidiciplinar en que se encuentra la Salud Mental para comprender los vaivenes históricos en el marco de las profundas transformaciones emprendidas en la región.
