Resulis  showed  a heterogencous group,  fonned by few qualifies students with, other  in this way and fewer inexperts. Los alumnos  competentes, desarrollan habilidades cognitivas y metacognitivas para  comprender la infor- mación que obtienen de la lectura en los textos  científicos y así,  concretar sus  aprendizajes. El objetivo general  de este trabajo fue evaluar en los alumnos del nivel  superior sus capacidades para procesar la  información. Se analizó y comparó  mediante una metodología cuanti y cualitativa el modo  en que exploran y operan  con  los libros  de textos  y con  la información que en ellos  encuentran. Ello permitió valorar  las dificultades más  frecuentes en el manejo  de los textos y en la  lectura comprensiva en una  etapa  del  trayecto  curricular.  Los  resultados muestran que  el grupo  de alumnos  es  heterogéneo, pues  está  integrado por  unos  pocos  lectores  competentes, otros  en vías  de ser buenos  lectores  y los menos,  que  demuestran aún, ser inexpertos.
