This article presents the results of an exploratory qualitative research on environmental education projects at primary school level in the province of Buenos Aires. The results show an environmental education based on individual and voluntarist initiatives that, although they propose the approach to situated environmental problems, they do so with unclear formulations and educational purposes, without explicit didactic pedagogical theoretical frameworks and with pre-eminence of some particular curricular area. The work concludes on the need to reinvent an educational policy that facilitates the institutionalization of environmental education. La educación ambiental es concebida como dimensión constitutiva de la educación obligatoria, sin embargo, no se constata una integración efectiva en la enseñanza formal. El artículo presenta los resultados de una indagación cualitativa de tipo exploratoria de los proyectos de educación ambiental en el nivel primario en la provincia de Buenos Aires. Los resultados muestran una educación de este tipo basada en iniciativas individuales y voluntaristas que, si bien proponen el abordaje de problemáticas ambientales locales, lo hacen con formulaciones y finalidades educativas poco claras, sin marcos teóricos pedagógicos didácticos explícitos y con preeminencia de algún área curricular.
