Thus, the act of educating occurs through the experience of first contact, considered both motivating and guiding of the educational process. This article presents three remarkable didactic trends in nature education, namely: the study of nature, conservationist education and experiential education. Characteristics and aspects that distinguish each of them are presented, composing a panorama that helps us to reflect on their potential in the school context. A educação na natureza pressupõe o ensino-aprendizado a partir do contato físico com ambientes naturais. Assim, o ato de educar ocorre pela experiência de primeiro contato, considerada tanto motivadora como condutora do processo educativo. Este artigo expõe três tendências didáticas que primam pela educação na natureza, a saber: estudo da natureza, educação conservacionista e educação experiencial.
