A basic sprouting idea indicates the existence of an epigenetic code that amplifies the potential of the genetic code to accumulate and modulate the information. Cell nucleus contains genomic DNA, folded and compacted with histone proteins forming chromatin. Several changes of chromatin, such as DNA methylation or histone acetylation, methylation or phosphorylation, occur in response to environmental signals regulating the expression patterns of genes. This growing field of study has important projections to agriculture, production and health, involving the better understanding of stem cells, cancer cells, normal and abnormal development, and aging.
