However, different conceptions and meanings attributed to the curriculum, create obstacles to debate the issue of diversity in the school. The present work is an experience report on Biology classes with first year middle school students. The experience was carried out in three stages: Planning of didactic unit, discussion of the topic and systematization. Although the concepts of gender, identity and sexual orientation are widely addressed in the media, they still represent obstacles for teachers. This article contributed to the expansion of the visibility of the issue, and to the formation of critical subjects regarding these emerging concerns in the social body. A escola é um ambiente sociocultural que deve permanecer conectado às temáticas sociais. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho é um relato de experiência vivenciado durante uma regência de classe em uma turma de primeiro ano de Ensino Médio nas aulas de biologia, e ocorreu em três etapas: planejamento da unidade didática, problematização e debate sobre o tema e sistematização. Foram desenvolvidos os conceitos de identidade de gênero e orientação sexual que, embora sejam amplamente discutidos nas mídias, ainda se constituem em obstáculos para os docentes. O trabalho contribuiu com a ampliação da visibilidade do tema e com a formação de sujeitos críticos referente a essas questões emergentes no corpo social.
