Sumario:Today there is a change of paradigm in Botany, which is necessary to  analyze and discuss. The main items under intense discussion and changes  are the phylogeny and classification of living organisms with chloroplasts,  the new vision of the concept of “plant” and “plant cell” and the replacement of the cellular theory by an organismal concept of plant multicellularity, which have led to a holistic view of plants. The aims of this paper are to present and discuss the current circumscription of the concepts of “plant”  and “plant cell” and to present the recent changes in phylogeny and classification of plants
