Pinochet (2020) affirms that anthropologies of art have been considerably promoted since the end of the 20th century, making it possible to claim their right to deal with the complexity of their own artistic scenes. Consequently some questions arise: are anthropology and sociology of dance possible in Latin America? What place does contemporary dance have in Latin American anthropological and sociological studies? How do they contribute to philosophical anthropology? What theoretical tools are specifically Latin American? After approaching the state of the art of anthropology and sociology in Latin America, the place of dance is traced from the hypothesis of Acuña (2002), who considers it as a text that narrates in its discourse meanings that inform on the state of certain cultural contingencies. There, reflection is enabled on ways of life, a central theme for both anthropology and sociology, from a comprehensive perspective.
