Sumario:Between 1910 and 1940 the foundations for the institutionalization of the Rosario artistic field were laid. The high point of this process was the inauguration of the Juan Bautista Castagnino Municipal Museum of Fine Arts in 1937, after the collector's death. Castagnino was a benchmark in artistic matters, both for his knowledge and for being part of a prestigious group of people who promoted the formalization of the local artistic field through various cultural initiatives. The present work attempts to explain the origins of the collection that is part of the museum's heritage, and the social and political processes  involved in its conformation.
