Castagnino was a benchmark in artistic matters, both for his knowledge and for being part of a prestigious group of people who promoted the formalization of the local artistic field through various cultural initiatives. The present work attempts to explain the origins of the collection that is part of the museum's heritage, and the social and political processes  involved in its conformation. Entre 1910 y 1940 se asentaron las bases para la institucionalización del campo artístico rosarino. El punto álgido de este proceso lo constituyó la inauguración del Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes Juan Bautista Castagnino en 1937, tras el fallecimiento del coleccionista. Castagnino fue un referente en materia artística, tanto por sus conocimientos como por formar parte de un prestigioso grupo de personas que fomentaron la formalización del campo artístico local a través de diversas iniciativas culturales. En el presente trabajo se procura explicar los orígenes de la colección que forma parte del patrimonio del museo, y los procesos sociales y políticos involucrados en su conformación.
