This presentation presents the partial progress of a larger work. As a problem, the absence of research methods in the arts was detected in advanced composition students to define their own music; Based on this, alternatives were sought that, from other areas such as aesthetics and musical analysis, oriented towards style as an object of artistic research. Our objectives are to expose and describe strategies that allow the composer-thesis writer to argue his style, from objective elements from the personal imagination. The methodology was autoethnographic: field records, recording of class sessions, individual and collective reflection, as well as workshops for group review of artistic products; Each student kept a creation log about their own process of creation and stylistic definition. As a partial result, it is considered that the gestation of a personal memory allows self-definitions in the search for a personal voice that can at the same time be evaluated by academic peers. El compositor-investigador hoy en día se acerca a su producto artístico desde perspectivas teóricas para comprender la dimensión de su creación. La presente ponencia expone el avance parcial de un trabajo de mayor envergadura. Como problema se detectó la ausencia de métodos de investigación en artes en estudiantes avanzados de composición para definir su propia música; a partir de ello, se buscaron alternativas que, desde otras áreas como la estética y el análisis musical orientasen hacia el estilo como objeto de la investigación artística. Son nuestros objetivos exponer y describir estrategias que permitan al compositor-tesista argumentar su estilo, desde elementos objetivos a partir del imaginario personal. La metodología fue autoetnográfica: registros de campo, grabación de sesiones de clases, reflexión individual y colectiva, así como talleres para la revisión grupal de productos artísticos; cada alumno llevó una bitácora de creación sobre su propio proceso de creación y definición estilística. Como resultado parcial se considera que la gestación de una memoria personal permite autodefiniciones en la búsqueda de una voz personal que pueda a la vez ser evaluada por pares académicos.
