The dancer/actress creates a new type of art, one that abides by the rules of symbolism and Art Nouveau. Loïe develops a system of representations in which space, light and movement acquire new meanings. The fabric she manipulates by the use of wands defy imagination when creating a dematerialized, expanded and ephemeral body. Patriarchal Society from Cordoba in 1900 saves women the participation to lay catholic associations. In Theatres, just a privileged group of people has access to opera shows, concerts and zarzuelas from Italian, French and Spanish companies. Fuller performs in the Argentine Theatre from Cordoba. La Voz del Interior newspaper broadcasts that “Smaun Sing Hpod, the Indian dwarf” and “the one and only singing doll who also waves and runs” are part of the show. Loïe Fuller’s appearance shocks traditional society from Córdoba, but at the same time it brings winds of change acting as a prelude to modern times. However, more than five decades will have to pass before scenic dance gains its own place in Córdoba. Loïe Fuller presenta el 11 de agosto de 1904 en Córdoba, Argentina, su célebre Danza serpentina. La bailarina-actriz origina un arte nuevo que adhiere a las poéticas del simbolismo y el Art nouveau. Loïe crea un sistema de representación donde adquieren nuevas dimensiones el espacio, la luz y el movimiento. Los velos que ella manipula a través de varas desafían el imaginario en la construcción de un cuerpo desmaterializado, expandido y evanescente. En 1900, Córdoba “la Docta” conserva una sociedad patriarcal que reserva la participación de la mujer para asociaciones católicas laicas. En los teatros, sólo un sector privilegiado de la comunidad tiene acceso a espectáculos de óperas, conciertos y zarzuelas de compañías italianas, francesas y españolas. Fuller se presenta en el Teatro Argentino de Córdoba. El diario La voz del interior anuncia que el espectáculo se completa con las presentaciones del “enano indio Smaun Sing Hpod” y “la incomparable muñeca que baila, saluda y corre”. La mentalidad conservadora de la sociedad cordobesa recibirá aires nuevos y gran impacto con la presentación de Loïe Fuller, preludiando los tiempos modernos. Sin embargo, la danza escénica tendrá que esperar más de cinco décadas para legitimar su espacio en Córdoba.
