This paper examines the concessions obtained through documented agreements in the Castilian-Leonese area that allowed certain dependents to either free themselves or reduce the labour rent required of them. It is proposed that this type of agreement helped reinforce the social and economic position of those who were favored as the mitigation of feudal rent would allow greater availability of the household's labour force while symbolically manifesting distinction by exempting themselves from the services that highlighted social inferiority, the labour services.
