In this article, the caseof the Villanueva family in New Spain is examined, which represents very well how relevant andsuccessful the formation of lineages was among privileged people. As well as the trajectories andstrategies of the members of this family, within the context in which they lived in New Spain duringthe 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century, will allow us to show how they managed toestablish themselves in some position of authority, which they had associated with privileges andprestige, and the way to preserve and perpetuate the heritage accumulated over time.
