This study analyses the future of apprentices in the silk weavers’guild in the city of Valencia in the last third of the 16th century. Through the apprenticeshipcontracts, not only the model apprentice will be traced, but also the socio-professional profileof those young people who cancelled their contracts, as well as those who managed to becomemasters. The analysis of these data will show that the sons of masters were not the majoritygroup, but also that they were not the only ones to obtain the mastership. In this way, not onlythe supposed endogamic character of the guilds in the Ancien Régime will be clarified, but alsothe importance of the economic situation in which the guilds, and therefore their members, wereimmersed will be made clear. El aprendizaje gremial suponía una de las mejores opciones dentro del mercado laboral del AntiguoRégimen. No obstante, esta opción también podía ser considerablemente inestable para muchosde los jóvenes que no podían ascender en la carrera artesanal. El presente estudio analiza el futurode los aprendices del gremio de sederos de la ciudad de Valencia en el último tercio del siglo XVI. Através de los contratos de aprendizajes, no sólo se trazará el aprendiz modelo, sino que se abordaráel perfil socio-profesional de aquellos jóvenes que cancelaban sus contratos, así como de aquellosque conseguirían convertirse en maestros. Gracias al análisis de estos datos se mostrará como loshijos de maestros no era el grupo mayoritario dentro del conjunto de aprendices, pero tambiéncomo el grado de maestro tampoco quedaba reservado para ellos. De esta manera no sólo sematiza el supuesto carácter endogámico que presentaron las corporaciones de oficio en el AntiguoRégimen, sino que además se pondrá de manifiesto la importancia de la coyuntura económica enla que los gremios, y por ende sus miembros, se encuentran inmersos.
