It is interesting to investigate, through detailed analysis of primary sources and significant historiographical studies, the motivations and strategies implemented by those who exercised political and religious power in the city. It aims to understand the mentality of both groups and their leaders, as well as their authentic significance in the process of transformation that took place in the Roman Empire during the fourth century. El propósito del presente trabajo consiste en proponer un aporte a los estudios referidos a la problemática surgida del encuentro entre paganos y cristianos en tiempos de Dámaso, en momentos cruciales para la historia de Roma. Interesa indagar, a través de un minucioso análisis de fuentes primarias y estudios historiográficos significativos, las motivaciones y estrategias implementadas por aquellos que ejercían el poder político y religioso en la ciudad. Se pretende comprender la mentalidad de ambos grupos y sus líderes, así como su auténtica significación en el proceso de transformación acaecido en el Imperio romano durante la cuarta centuria.
