Sumario:Between 1880 and 1914 Argentina underwent a vigorous growth, leading to its consolidation as a modern agricultural economy, well integrated in the international markets. The credit requirements of a country in so rapid growth, demanded solutions that did not always agree with an orthodox banking pattern. In this paper we intend to analyze the industrial business experience of the Banco Francés del Río de la Plata, one f the most important of the national prívate banks at that moment. The study aims at furthering the understanding of the role of this sort offirms in financing development, and in the rise of a modern entrepreneurial elite.
