The credit requirements of a country in so rapid growth, demanded solutions that did not always agree with an orthodox banking pattern. In this paper we intend to analyze the industrial business experience of the Banco Francés del Río de la Plata, one f the most important of the national prívate banks at that moment. The study aims at furthering the understanding of the role of this sort offirms in financing development, and in the rise of a modern entrepreneurial elite. Entre 1880 y 1914 la Argentina experimentó un vigoroso crecimiento, que permitió la consolidación de una moderna economía agropecuaria, bien integrada al mercado mundial. Los requerimientos de crédito de una economía en tan rápido crecimiento no siempre se acomodaron a las pautas de la banca ortodoxa. En este trabajo se intentará analizar la experiencia de participación en empresas del uno de los más importantes de los bancos privados nacionales en ese momento. El estudio intenta avanzar en la comprensión del papel de este tipo de firmas en la financiación del desarrollo y el ascenso de una moderna élite empresarial.
