Sumario:Starting from the analysis of the official documents produced within Córdoba del Tucumán during the period 1573-1700, we tried to recognise the etno-categories (those employed by the enunciators of the documents) which establish segmentations into the social tissue (v.g español, indio, natural, pieza, indio de taza, encomendado, tributario, yanacona, mitayo, cacique, curaca, alcalde, mestizo); the contents that these categories acquire in the documents among them, the principles from which it is possible to organize them, and the functions that these divisions perform regarding to the Colonial system from which they emerge.
