It also observes, due to the economical utilization of the rivers, how a socio-economic-cultural space is created, called the river Plate region and having as its main characters Argentina and Brazil. The work makes reference to the historical unity of this interior space when considering the common interests in sharing -in the middle of the XIX century- the benefits of the "new times" that could be felt in the river Plate region. Este trabajo pretende contribuir con algunas reflexiones sobre la importancia económica que representó la cuenca del río de la Plata para los intereses regionales, en el siglo XIX y parte del XX, y sobre todo analizar el papel que tuvieron esos ríos en la estructuración del comercio fluvial entre el Brasil y la Argentina durante ese período. Por otro lado y en consecuencia de la utilización económica de los ríos, observar cómo se configura un espacio socio-económico cultural, que podemos reconocer como la región platina y que tiene como principales actores a la Argentina y al Brasil. La importancia del tema reside en entender la unidad histórica de este espacio interior al considerar los intereses comunes en compartir -a mediados del siglo XIX- los beneficios de los "nuevos tiempos" que llegaban al Plata.
