| Sumario: | From a cultural history perspective, focused on the social and political uses of writing in Hispanic America in the mid-19th century this paper discusses the illustrated groups who based their power and prestige on the written works. It examines the Argentine romantic group known as the 1837 generation, one of the most important in the cultural and political history in the region. The analysis deals with three questions: a) their reflections and representations on writing; b) the relationships they established between writing and politics; c) the problems they raised related to writing about the past. A series of minor texts such as letters, press articles, manuals, prefaces and theater plays constitute the corpus. |
