This paper study the evolution of that process in the province of Santa Fe, where the immigration was very important. Some of the aspect under investigation are the moments when the demanding of citizenship augmented and its causes, the reactions of the different ethnic groups at the matter, and the magnitude of the process in comparison with other provinces. Other subject to analyse is the position adopted by Santa Fe s leaders about the problem. La naturalización de los extranjeros fue una cuestión sumamente debatida en la Argentina de fines del siglo XIXy muy vinculada a los esfuerzos realizados en orden a nacionalizar a los inmigrantes que llegaban por oleadas al país. Este trabajo evalúa la evolución de dicho fenómeno en la provincia de Santa Fe, una de las parcialidades en las que más se hizo sentir el peso de la presencia inmigratoria. Para ello, se busca determinar los momentos coyunturales en los que las solicitudes de cartas de ciudadanía se hicieron más numerosas y analizar sus posibles causales, a la vez que realizar un estudio comparativo de la tendencia a la naturalización de los diversos grupos étnicos radicados en suelo santafesino, como asimismo con respecto a otras realidades provinciales, en el marco de un proceso que fue sumamente restringido. Se busca analizar, asimismo, la posición asumida por diversos exponentes de la dirigencia santafesina de entonces frente al tema. Centro de Estudios Históricos Profesor Carlos S. A.
