Unknown documentation found about the fort and guards allowed us to know about the working, as well as the actors who were involved and the defense practices in the southern border area. Owing to the act that it was a question of great conflict in Hispanic-indigenous relations, we perceive how in these moments they organized defensively all the forts and guards among themselves, despite the great distances that separated them and the limited resources available to them. Published sources such as several acts of the Buenos Aires Cabildo and trip logs, wich are documents from the «General Archive of the Nation». En este trabajo indagamos en la estructura y el funcionamiento defensivo de la frontera sur bonaerense a mediados del siglo XVIII, a partir del análisis del fuerte «El Zanjón», creado como refuerzo defensivo hacia 1752 y ubicado en el pago de Magdalena. El cruce de documentación inédita sobre el fuerte y las guardias cercanas a su zona de influencia nos permitió conocer el funcionamiento, así como los actores involucrados y las prácticas de defensa en la zona sur de la frontera. Debido a que se trató de una coyuntura de gran conflictividad en las relaciones hispano-indígenas, distinguimos cómo en dichos momentos se articulaban defensivamente la totalidad de los fuertes y guardias entre sí, a pesar de las grandes distancias que los separaban y los escasos recursos de los que disponían. Se consultaron como complemento fuentes editas como las actas del Cabildo de la ciudad de Buenos Aires y diarios de viaje, todos documentos pertenecientes al Archivo General de la Nación.  Centro de Estudios Históricos Profesor Carlos S.
