From a concrete historical perspective and through content analysis, we describe the speeches from the most important Spanish newspapers: La Vanguardia, ABC and El País. Latin America has been present in the media content of the last decades of the twentieth century, often because of war. The treatment accorded to so controversial invasion, serves as a useful example to see if the positions of social actors in charge of forming opinion, they were honest about the events or if instead were more prone to other interests. El presente artículo explora la visión dada por la prensa española a la intervención norteamericana de Panamá de diciembre de 1989. Desde una perspectiva histórica concreta y a través del análisis de contenido, describimos los discursos entonados desde tres diarios españoles de referencia: La Vanguardia, ABC y El País. Latinoamérica ha estado presente en los contenidos mediáticos de las últimas décadas del siglo XX, y a menudo a causa de conflictos bélicos. El tratamiento concedido a tan polémica invasión, sirve como un ejemplo útil para conocer si los posicionamientos de los actores sociales encargados de formar opinión, fueron honestos con respecto a los hechos acaecidos o si por el contrario se mostraron más proclives a otro tipo de intereses.
