In this paper I intended to scrutinise the historical background of the insistence of the Indian chronicler and clarify the historical sense of the transformation of the image of the Incas in new colonial society. Es bien sabido que Guamán Poma se presentó como descendiente de la dinastía incaica por la línea materna, a pesar de que censurara categóricamente la política religiosa del estado cusqueño y mencionara repetidamente que el título de los incas no tenía nada de importancia en la sociedad prehispánica de los Andes. En esta ponencia se trata de escudriñar el fondo histórico de la insistencia del cronista indio y aclarar el sentido histórico de la transformación de la imagen de los incas en la nueva sociedad colonial.
