During the course of this war the Paraguayan government revolutionized the journalistic activity through the creation of four newspapers that were characterized for the incorporation of a series of innovations: the writing in Guarani, language spoken by most of the population, the use of satire and the incorporation of images. Our goal is to study the causes and the consequences of this journalistic revolution, focusing on the analysis of each of the new elements introduced in the newspapers. An analysis of these characteristics needs a methodology that displaces the canonical borders of the disciplines and that raises the fundamental question of the production of meaning, which is why we analyze the papers on three levels: the texts, its format and the reading practices.
