Specifically, we analyze the main problems of governance that occurred in the River Plate area with the establishment of the Juntas Provinciales and Subalternas in 1811. The resumption of sovereignty in Juntas meant exercising new powers by the people, which led to governance challenges related to the manner of exercise that sovereignty, such as the tensions between the major cities with the subaltern, the coexistence of colonial institutions with new revolutionary institutions, and other administrative and jurisdictional problems that illustrate the performance of the Juntas Provinciales and Subalternas. El objetivo del artículo es explorar la participación política de las Provincias Intendencias durante el proceso que inaugura la Revolución de Mayo. Específicamente, se analizan los principales problemas de gobernabilidad que se presentaron en el interior del territorio rioplatense con la instauración de las Juntas Provinciales y Subalternas en el año 1811. La reasunción de la soberanía en Juntas significó el ejercicio de nuevos poderes por parte de los pueblos, que derivaron en desafíos de gobernabilidad relacionados con la forma de ejercicio de esa soberanía, tales como las tensiones entre las ciudades principales con las subalternas; la coexistencia de instituciones coloniales con nuevas instituciones revolucionarias; y otros problemas administrativos y jurisdiccionales que ilustran el funcionamiento de las Juntas Provinciales y Subalternas.
