It begins with the constitution of a field of studies that initiates as a social history of the death focusing in Michel Vovelle’s and Philippe Ariès’ works. It shows the impact and unlikely appropriation that both authors had between the historians and outlines, at the same time, some reasons that might explain this course. Then the paper mentions some key works to think about social, cultural and political history of the death in the contemporary societies.
