The objective is to try to establish connections between the public speeches of an author and the private texts preserved in his epistolary, to determine the themes and motives that articulate this one, and to contribute to the reconstruction of the argentine intellectual sociability of ends of nineteenth and early twentieth century. Las cartas, espacio privilegiado de expresión personal, se constituyen en este artículo, a la vez, en objeto de estudio y en la fuente principal desde la cual se aborda, a través de un enfoque historiográfico, la figura del historiador David Peña (1862-1930). El objetivo consiste en procurar entablar conexiones entre los discursos públicos de un autor y los textos de carácter privado conservados en su epistolario, determinar los temas y motivos que articulan a éste, y contribuir a la reconstrucción de la sociabilidad intelectual argentina de fines del siglo XIX y principios del siglo XX.
