Practically since the latter began to be exploited by multinational companies, various conflicts have developed with the indigenous ethnic groups. This article describes the role played by the petroleum resource in the region while identifying the actors involved in the distribution of the profits from this resource. The analysis addresses the environmental impact of the oil industry, which has resulted in the destabilization of the economic system and has led to heavy militarization in response to the conflict of interests among the different actors involved in this scheme. In this context, the various ethnic groups have been the most disadvantaged, as they have always been completely excluded from the distribution of the benefits of this economic activity, being brutally repressed with systematic violations of their human rights, which has generated numerous conflicts in recent decades, increasing insecurity in the region.
