If one compares the trade volumes that unite the African continent with other partners cush as China, India and the former metropolis, Rusia lags far behind these more traditional partners. However, for Russia the interest is more geopolitical than geoeconomic. Africa is perhaps more perceived as a scenario where its presence can be increased with the purpose of exercising strategic reparation policies against the West from there. Russia´s actions in Libya may be a proof of this, but they also mean the assertion of power in the North African country in order to hinder or put pressure on Europe. In short, while Western sanctions are an indication of the relationship with Africa, Russia needs to further strengthen its ties with those countries that have not sanctioned it. En términos generales, suele exagerarse la presencia de Rusia en África. Si se comparan los volúmenes comerciales que unen el continente africano con otros partners como China, India y las ex metrópolis coloniales, Rusia queda bastante más atrás que estos socios más tradicionales. Sin embargo, para Rusia el interés es más geopolítico que geoeconómico. África es acaso más percibida como un escenario donde se pueda incrementar la presencia con el propósito de ejercer desde allí políticas de reparación estratégica frente a Occidente. La actuación rusa en Libia puede ser una prueba de ello, pero también significa la afirmación de poder en el país norafricano con el fin de dificultar o presionar a Europa. En definitiva, en tanto las sanciones occidentales son un indicio de la relación con África, Rusia requiere fortalecer más sus vínculos con aquellos países que no la han sancionado.
