If one compares the trade volumes that unite the African continent with other partners cush as China, India and the former metropolis, Rusia lags far behind these more traditional partners. However, for Russia the interest is more geopolitical than geoeconomic. Africa is perhaps more perceived as a scenario where its presence can be increased with the purpose of exercising strategic reparation policies against the West from there. Russia´s actions in Libya may be a proof of this, but they also mean the assertion of power in the North African country in order to hinder or put pressure on Europe. In short, while Western sanctions are an indication of the relationship with Africa, Russia needs to further strengthen its ties with those countries that have not sanctioned it.
