Sumario:History Teaching in architecture and urbanism is a challenging activity both because of the own field characteristics (basically focus on in the production of spaces to house social practices) and because of the current historical conditions (a globalized world in environmental crisis and with deep inequities in the Latin American context). These contextual conditions and the particular relationship between history and architecture in education demand deep discussions to carry out changes in our academic institutions. As an input for these processes of change, here we present a teaching statement for a professorship that introduces students to the history of architecture in the first study year. The statement is part of a public competition for a vacant position and that we carried out since 2017. Although this is only a professorship within a whole architecture curriculum, its propaedeutic nature allows initiating a relationship between students and history that could contribute to the construction of a critical architectural thinking. The conceptual framework presented in the teaching statement begins with a situated learning approach: students contribute with their realities and together we build a first approach to "Here Now" with its current problems.  Starting from there, we propose the notion of culture as a dialectic pair of inhabit-habitat, where architecture is part of the city and the territory. We focus on the transformation processes of the habitat over time: from there we propose a journey through a selection of periods and cases in history to recognize cycles in the transformations and the ‘dérives’, a journey of some historical habitat component until "Here Now".
