The study corpus is made up of the three national policies for the promotion of reading and books (2006-2010, 2015-2020 and 2023-2028) and some complementary documents. Data collection is based on the contexts in which the terms “translation” and “translator” appear in the corpus and, through content analysis, categories and patterns of the contribution of translation to the promotion of reading and books are described. Among the results, we highlight the recognition of translators as professionals in the ecosystem of reading and books; the contribution of translation to the process of internationalization of books; and the need to offer support through competitive funds for the promotion of translations from foreign languages into Spanish and from Spanish into other languages. Con el fin de contribuir a la reflexión sobre el proceso de reconocimiento de la traducción como una práctica que fomenta la lectura y favorece la internacionalización del libro en Chile, hemos realizado un estudio exploratorio cuyo objetivo es describir el aporte de la traducción a las políticas nacionales de fomento de la lectura y el libro. El corpus de estudio está conformado por las tres políticas nacionales de fomento de la lectura y el libro (2006-2010, 2015-2020 y 2023-2028) y algunos documentos complementarios. La recolección de datos se realiza a partir de los contextos en que aparecen los términos «traducción» y «traductor» en el corpus y, mediante el análisis de contenido, se describen categorías y patrones del aporte de la traducción al fomento de la lectura y el libro. Entre los resultados destacamos el reconocimiento de los traductores como profesionales del ecosistema de la lectura y el libro, la contribución de la traducción al proceso de internacionalización del libro, y la necesidad de ofrecer apoyo a través de fondos concursables para el fomento de las traducciones de lenguas extranjeras al español y del español a otras lenguas.
