In 1589 he took the translated Cancionero to Spain, which he dedicated to Felipe II, along with two other translations to print them in Madrid. This translator was one of the first introducers of the European Renaissance in America and an important figure in the formation of independent peers. As a translator and poet, he was a distinguished cultivator of Renaissance letters. I will analyze the opinions expressed by his contemporaries, which appear in the preface of the work, and will address the evaluations it received. It is striking that with these outstanding qualifications he only received a scant, late recognition from the Crown. Henrique Garcés, portugués que arribó al Perú en 1547 y se afincó en Lima unos años después, realizó la primera traducción completa del thoscano al castellano del Cancionero de Petrarca durante la década de 1570. En 1589 llevó el Cancionero a España, que dedicó a Felipe II, junto con otras dos traducciones, para imprimirlas en Madrid. Este traductor fue uno de los primeros introductores del renacimiento europeo en América y figura importante en la formación de contertulios independientes. Fue un gran cultor de las letras renacentistas, como traductor y poeta. Analizaré las opiniones vertidas por sus contemporáneos, que aparecen en el prefacio de la obra, e identificaré los calificativos que recibió. Llama la atención que con estos comentarios laudatorios solo recibiera un escaso, tardío reconocimiento de la Corona.
