| Sumario: | The objective was to identify the advantages of foreignization strategies in the translation of cultural references of Lituma en los Andes. The research was applied and inductive, of a descriptive-empirical nature and the research design was non-experimental and observational with a quantitative approach and a method of documenting research developed in the field of linguistics. The general corpus was the novel Lituma en los Andes written by Mario Vargas Llosa and its translation into English Death in the Andes by Edith Grossman. The specific corpus was composed of 60 references of 4 types: natural environment, cultural heritage, social culture and linguistic culture. The observation technique and corpus analysis were used. The findings indicated that were identified 3 advantages of the foreignization strategies in the criterion of translatability with 43 cases (72%), intentionality with 10 cases (17%) and comprehensibility with 7 cases (11%) thanks to diverse techniques of foreignization strategies. Finally, it was concluded that the advantages of foreignization strategies provide a valuable transfer of the connotative and semiotic resonance of the cultural reference, facilitate its comprehension and intelligibility and allow the conservation of the original intention of the author as well as the same communicative effect in the target reader. |
