Despite the attempts of diverse organizations to achieve the linguistic normalization of the discipline, the results have not been successful, due to the inefficacy of the methodologies suggested. Specifically, the situation is further aggravated in Spanish language because of the primacy of English and the lack of own occupational therapy literature. This issue stands as one of the main obstacles to the progress and recognition of this discipline in the academic and cultural field, considering the relevance of linguistic normalisation to stablish specialised communication, to precisely transmit scientific knowledge, to ensure the rigour when investigating and to improve clinical practice. Thus, the future of occupational therapy must aim to define, stablish a hierarchy, and denominate the main concepts of the area to warrant the settlement of the profession as a science.
