| Sumario: | The present work deals with the profession of sworn translators and their status within the Spanish and Italian legal systems. The lack of an association in both countries regulating their functions entails some major drawbacks such as the lack of agreed technical guidelines and of consensus on translation rates. Starting from the normative framework regulating the membership to the Spanish association of translators and interpreters and from the information gathered from several Italian courts, we have managed to outline the principles, characteristics, responsibilities and duties underlying this profession. |
