Aproximaciones divergentes a la traducción de poesía Herreño Contreras, Yomaira Angélica This article delves into the translation of metapoetic poetry, particularly prose poems. Firstly, it makes reference to fundamental aspects, such as: metapoiesis, the theory of the prose poem, poetry translation in the light of Translation Studies and the literary translator. Subsequently, findings derived from the preliminary approach to this field of study are displayed through three versions of prose poems by José Ángel Valente: the original (Spanish) and the translations (English and French). It is worth to emphasize that this is essentially a reading exercise aiming to appreciate and trace the unique quest for the initial word, pursued by the poet-a core theme in his poetic work-. Thus, this paper does not give account of a contrastive analysis to detect discrepancies, similarities or errors. On the contrary, its main objective is to attend the place where the initial word is gestated, and witness the dialogue established by the three versions of the poem. In this manner, a starting point towards more thorough studies on a divergent way of perceiving poetry translation is provided - in this case, metapoetic one - in accordance with translation as a deep reading experience, as opposed to a merely theoretical perspective.
