This article is intended to make an introduction to one of the major authors of the Latin-American political debate. To such purpose, this work presents, in biographical terms, the development of the concepts of revolution, community and government, focusing on the texts he wrote when he was a political prisoner in the nineties and on his reflections as vice-president of Bolivia. The continuities, tense moments and contradictions of this process are highlighted, in order to provide a full perspective of his main contributions. La obra de Álvaro García Linera es un cuerpo vivo, cuyo movimiento se encuentra dictado por su experiencia política personal y por las intensas transformaciones que ha atravesado Bolivia en las cuatro últimas décadas. Este artículo se propone introducir al pensamiento de uno de los autores esenciales del debate político latinoamericano. Para ello, se presenta, en clave biográfica, el desarrollo de los conceptos de revolución, comunidad y Estado, haciendo foco en sus escritos como preso político en la década del 90 y en sus reflexiones como vicepresidente del Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia. Se subrayan las continuidades, tensiones y contradicciones, procurando construir una imagen integral de sus principales aportes.
