Sumario:Meat industry is a time bomb for the planet. The way and scale in which capitalist civilization produces and consumes meat represents one of the main sources of contamination in an unprecedented moment of environmental crisis, which can be described as collapse due to its concatenated and irreversible effects. However, the capitalist system is incapable of stopping or slowing down the industrial production of meat, even though self-destructive logic materializes in it that progressively devastates the sources of its reproduction. This paper pursues three objectives: 1) Expose the reasons why the meatification of the world food system fulfills strategic functions for the expanded reproduction of capital, so it is not a market that the system can do without. 2) Point out the dimension that the meat industry represents in ecological collapse. 3) Point out some of the operations that meat consumption fulfills in the construction of social meanings.
