To this end, we offer the reader a tour through a broad and representative set of international manifestos and declarations concerning libraries and their information services. In this way, it is possible to see the place and importance given to library services in relation to the fundamental rights of access to information, culture and knowledge. It is also possible to specify the matrix underlying these international documents, which are inspired by both the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. En el presente artículo se dan a conocer cuáles son los derechos humanos garantizados por medio de los servicios que prestan las bibliotecas. Para ello proponemos al lector un recorrido a través de un conjunto amplio y representativo de manifiestos y declaraciones internacionales referidos a las bibliotecas y sus servicios de información. De esta manera es posible advertir cuál es el lugar y la importancia otorgados a los servicios bibliotecarios en relación a los derechos fundamentales de acceso a la información, a la cultura y al conocimiento. También es posible precisar la matriz que subyace en dichos documentos internacionales y que tienen por fuente de inspiración tanto la Declaración Universal de Derechos Humanos como también el Pacto Internacional de Derechos Económicos, Sociales y Culturales. Este artigo fornece informações sobre os direitos humanos garantidos através dos serviços prestados pelas bibliotecas. Para o efeito, oferecemos ao leitor uma visita guiada por um conjunto amplo e representativo de manifestos e declarações internacionais relativos às bibliotecas e aos seus serviços de informação. Desta forma, é possível ver o lugar e a importância dada aos serviços das bibliotecas em relação aos direitos fundamentais de acesso à informação, à cultura e ao conhecimento. É igualmente possível especificar a matriz subjacente a estes documentos internacionais, que se inspiram tanto na Declaração Universal dos Direitos do Homem como no Pacto Internacional sobre os Direitos Económicos, Sociais e Culturais.
